Use a question for a short classroom discussion

Choose a question for your group

Start with a question you can picture your students answering. About me questions invite preferences and interests, while imagination questions give students a made-up situation to explore. Preview any question before you put it on screen. These questions are intended for upper elementary classrooms; choose and adapt them for your students.

Think, talk, then share

Give students 20 seconds to think, then one minute to take turns with a partner. Use the remaining time for optional sharing. A sentence starter can help someone begin, but it is not a model answer. Use the follow-up only if it helps the conversation. This is a short sharing activity, rather than a plan for the entire morning meeting.

Use the screen or the five-day sample

Present question shows the current question and a sentence starter on a clear screen, with an optional follow-up. Exit the presentation to preview another question before sharing it. Print five days prints the sample above, rather than the whole library. No sign-up or written answer is required.

Frequently asked questions

What are morning meeting share questions?

They are short prompts students can use to share a preference, interest, idea, or imagined answer. This collection focuses on the sharing part of a classroom morning meeting, with time to think and talk with a partner.

Do students have to share something personal?

No. Students can choose an imagined answer or pass. About me questions ask about interests and preferences, rather than grades, achievements, family circumstances, or spending.

Can I read the questions without using the random picker?

Yes. All 30 questions, sentence starters, and follow-ups are listed on this page. Use this question puts a selected question in the preview card. Copy question copies that question with its optional prompts.

What does Print five days print?

It prints the five-day sample on this page: an imagination question, a choice, an About me question, a teamwork situation, and another imagination question. It does not print all 30 questions. You can also use your browser’s Print command.
